Installing a Seymour Duncan Hot Runway - Help :)

I'm trying to install a SD Hot Track into my Eric Johnson Strat. The EJ (I know you know already) is based on a 1957.

And then when it's wired in and prepare to get the trouble becomes that the new pickup is too tall. At that place's not enough room (routing) for the fat wire and I can't bring it around back without everything getting smooshed.

If I get it to "fit" the pickup is and so high that I tin't string the guitar!

I'm afraid I'll demand to become a chisel or router out and that would be unsafe, and probably dumb for the strat...

1 more affair! Is it OK to plow that pickup around?

Thanks for looking,

DJ

Well...routing the crenel out deeper is nigh the simply way to get considering the size of the pickup you lot desire to install but you're correct...its going to severely affect the value of that guitar. And not in a expert way.

You tin turn the pickup around if you lot want but its designed to exist installed the way you have information technology in your picture.

But my 2 cents..either sell that guitar and get something HSS routed or purchase a second body and just used that along with the EJ cervix. Only do not go and modern that body unless you are 100% certain you are 1)going to keep it or two) willing to have a pretty significant loss on selling/trading it downward the route.

I would deepen the option upwards cavity with a router to arrive fit if i really
wanted this pick upwardly in there.
Turning it around doesn't modify annihilation when i look at your wiring harness.
Just you can decide about the value aspect.
Adept luck

I don't think putting a Hot Track into an EJ is something y'all desire to be involved with. Put the original pickup back in and back away slowly....
Go go a MIM and turn that into a mutant, that'due south what they are for. Artist models...non so much.

BTW, the Hot Rail is high output, yous might exist amend off with a Lil 59 (it would expect better besides) Although a Lil 59 is probably as deep as the Rail.

I have a Hot Rail in the bridge of my Strat, so let me warn you.

You better know exactly what to expect from that pick-up before you lot do major damage to high dollar guitar.

I dearest my Hot Rail, but Dorthy... you're not in Strat land anymore.

Yeah, a Hot Rail in a Strat won't sound remotely stratty, but that is the bespeak, and so brand sure yous realize that. If it doesn't fit, it doesn't fit. Yous tin route information technology, or non. Those are the choices. But you can decide if information technology is something worth doing.

No, really there is another to practise it. No routing necessary.
Just tilt the neck and college the string blocks. That way you can easily adjust the pickup fashion higher in the pickguard.
A very sparse layer of paper-thin is style enough (or very sparse layer of any paper/woods).
A choice is too much.

All the best,
Robin

No, actually there is another to practise it. No routing necessary.
Merely tilt the neck and higher the string blocks. That way y'all can easily adjust the pickup way higher in the pickguard.
A very thin layer of cardboard is style enough (or very sparse layer of any paper/forest).
A pick is too much.

All the all-time,
Robin

This is truthful
